John Ockerby (1724 - 1808) was baptised in St Oswald's Church, Crowle, Lincolnshire on 27th September 1724

 

 

 

 

 

John Hockaby (1757 - 1841) baptised at St Mary's in Church Fenton 16th February 1758 (1759?).

George Ockerby (1798 - 1851) baptised at St Mary's Church in Church Fenton, Yorkshire on 24th June 1798.

It was George's brother, Thomas who fathered Featherstone Ockerby who was later to emigrate to Tasmania and started the splendid line of Ockerbys now living in Australia

Burton upon Stather sits on the River Trent close to its confluence with the Humber estuary where our Viking forebears will have first come ashore.

Across the river from Burton upon Stather is the small hamlet of Fockerby whence we probably derive our unique surname.

Within 10 miles of Burton upon Stather lies Crowle where our know ancestor, John Ockerby was baptised in 1724

Between 1724 and 1757, probably through the need to find farming work, some of the Ockerbys had uprooted and moved some 50 miles into Yorkshire and settled in Church Fenton
